CNC Machining of a Hot Water Heat Exchanger
At TruStop Inc., we were contracted by a USA-based customer to develop a heat exchanger system according to their supplied specifications. The final product would need to be capable of holding 150 psi, 7 ft. water heated to 400°F and would follow customer-submitted CAD drawings. By applying high precision manufacturing procedures to ASME-compliant designs, we were able to design and build a custom heat exchanger that exceeded the customer requirements.
We selected a combination of carbon steel and copper-nickel materials for fabrication of the heat exchanger. The design included 6" and 3" flanges, rated at 150 lbs. and 300 lbs. respectively, and also incorporated 5/8" diameter, 0.049" wall thickness heat exchange tubing. Material manufacture was conducted on-site and included precision CNC machining and assembly procedures. The final product achieved ASME Sec. VIII Div. 1 2010 certification, which establishes that a heat exchanger be able to heat 500 GPM of water from 140°F to 160°F, among other requirements. Construction and delivery were completed within an 8-week turnaround period.
